Parent-Child Communication is the reciprocating response being exchanged between the two hands while administering a bodywork procedure [Vinyasa]. To achieve a first-class experience in a massage session, the P/C Comprehension must be present.
This P/C Communication, functioning harmoniously amid the two hands, is living consciousness and provides the receiver with pleasant uniformity and steadiness during a treatment.
Elements essential to P/C Communication are consistency, fluidity and rhythm. These are three indispensable contributions to a conscientious treatment in massage therapy. To describe hypothetically, if a client received three sessions in one day, all 3 treatments could be uniquely different when rhythm, consistency and fluidity are used with varying applications with in P/C Communication. Being consistent, fluid and rhythmic enhances the core quality of a session by administering a certain trancelike inducement and grace, perhaps comparable to the effects of listening to music.
A child’s success is an agreement confirmed from its source, its parent, and inversely the parent’s acknowledgment of this confirmation completes and proliferates continuation of more success and confirmation for the child. This message, oscillating between the Parent and Child hands of a skilled massage artist, generates an affirmation and a substantiation which becomes infused into the receiver’s perception and thus positively effects the treatment.
From my experience, when alternating hand compressions are aware of each other’s connection, then discernment and appreciation becomes manifest in the treatment and this propagates further the actualization of support and growth for the fortunate receiver.
The autonomic nervous system, part of computer central, is inherently and continuously monitoring any TRUE energy whose signature is of support and growth. As it detects these messages it also simultaneously commands the release of very pleasant chemicals [hormones etc] secreted from the chakra/glandular configuration. Surging through other exquisite sacred life systems of the soul’s anatomy and structure, pure delivered energies of good [sattvic] intention and vision are creating the familiar spirit of tranquility and serenity for the receiver.
The Parent-Child communication, the open dialog and thought transference unifying two hand functions into ONE, is pure medicine, remedy and cure.
When applying pressure or compression, regardless of which asana is being expressed and regardless of whether we are using our palms, feet, fingers, elbows or knees, pause momentarily for a full respiration at full expression of the therapeutic offering. Our awareness will naturally oscillate from its area of focus, known as the epicenter or the child application, to the area of focus which is known as the Parent application. The Parent hand [or foot, elbow, knee etc] is not just observing in its function but is also doing all things a Parent would do for its child such as mothering, monitoring, guiding, approving, agreeing with, and protecting etc.
This exchange can also be called The Reflection or The Parent-Child Communication!
Is there always a reflection?
Yes always.
To illustrate this conception more clearly, I often use the analogy while teaching of a magician on stage performing a trick. The magician raises one hand very high with power and commanding attention while the other hand rests dormant and docile along side the magician. When all is said and done, which hand was REALLY creating the trick?? Correct!! The resting one!!
This attitude is what is required to transmit confidence, security and comfort into our receiver during a treatment.
A grounded and confident anchoring, such that the parent energy represents, radiates after receiving expert and professional influence from our soul’s intention. The Child sensitivity is exploring, adventuring and discovering and is made successful by transmissions of encouragement from the balanced Parent. The P/C Communication greatly enhances the soul stirrings and openings of our heart center. It is an exquisite meditation complementing any massage treatment!
