The Three Levers

The Three Levers procedure is total pleasure. It is elegant to administer, dynamic to surrender to and compelling to observe. Its simplicity of execution betrays its powerful effectiveness. The 3 Levers’ purpose, among several, is to release the lower back congestions and open and stretch the posterior leg meridians and musculature. The pelvic fascia at the sacro-iliac region will elongate and broaden during this procedure allowing for many benefits including improved circulation and a more natural stature and carriage.

PROCEDURE:

The technique involves holding both of the receiver’s heels in one hand. I recommend also, to slip the index finger between the two heels for greater security and control.

Coming into a lunge position, place your foot next to the receiver’s hip [the opposite hip to the foot that you are holding] and be sure that your ankle is resting up against the receiver’s hip. The receiver will detect the warmth from your ankle. This warmth will also transmit comfort and confidence to the receiver and this will initiate a positive response from the receiver also.

Lock your elbow in place and lunge forward three times or more, directing the receiver’s feet to ‘float’ up and over the receiver’s forehead. Hold each of the lunges at full expression for at least one complete respiration before releasing. Remember to keep your elbows in a locked condition even during the release. This will assist you in maintaining a connection to using your whole body for the asana and not just your arm strength.

When at full expression, attune yourself to feel the ultra-subtle openings and sensitivities, also known as myo-fascial release. In many instances only the slightest movement will be allowed by the receiver due to a very limited ability and constricted physiology. This includes the restrictions imposed by thoughts of fear and negative emotions.

As with any personal transformation in progress, be patient with this impression and never judge or compare. Encourage the receiver with verbal suggestions. When an obvious resistance is experienced, a good communication to express to the receiver would be to ‘collapse’ or to ‘melt’. I like these autosuggestions. These verbal articulations work very well in any stretch-release. Use verbal suggestions often to enhance the quality of any treatment.

When fully-expressed in The Three Levels protocol, instruct the receiver to ‘drop your hips back onto the table/mat surface’. This pelvic drop will be a very delicate discernment to perceive yet it is our personal responsibility to our art to become an expert.

With the more flexible recipients, incrementally increase the holding duration as well as the intensity by lunging a little further with each of the three applications. Please remember that we are not pressing down onto the receiver. We are ‘floating’ the heels up and away, over the forehead of the receiver.

There is no more elegant procedure to offer a fortunate recipient. The health enthusiasts such as dancers, martial artists, and yoga devotees love the simplicity of The Three Levers.  Remember that a little change is oftentimes a lot with this stretch. Don’t waste your valuable mental energy comparing and analyzing. The next time this receiver comes to see you for a treatment, their system will have changed dramatically due to the infinite innate intelligence residing within all of us.

The most important and valuable transmission that we are communicating is the positive message of transformation potential and it’s availability to each person regardless of his or her present state of health. Revelation and Meditation are the priority of any bodywork session.

Be intuitive.

Vedic Thai Massage-Assisted Yoga is synonymous with dance and song. You are composing a song. You are choreographing a dance. Be respectful and be courteous always. Bhakti yoga is the yoga of love and devotion. It is the consciousness of treating each and every person as if they are the Supreme Lord and Sacred Goddess.

Offer this 3 Levers asana several times during your session.
