Two Application Options to Use When Releasing from a Full Asana Expression

Sliding and Lifting are two therapeutic options available for repositioning techniques to use when releasing from any asana’s full expression.

When one is either ‘in’ a full expression of an asana or ‘entering into’ a full expression of an asana repetitively, we want to always select distinctively when reapplying and repositioning to choose either:
1) a lift or
2) a slide without lifting

Lift to reposition or slide to the next position without lifting.

One of the reasons we want to bring a conscientious awareness to the distinctions of either sliding to a new position or lifting to reposition is essentially to pay respect to the effectiveness of the technique and the tested professionalism of the technique.

Either lifting to reposition or sliding without lifting are very effective procurements to achieve satisfaction on visceral and physical dimensions for the fortunate recipient.
For example, an epicenter of a marma or chakra emerges from amongst a constellation of epicenters after sustaining an application for a certain duration.   The other epicenters extinguish naturally as the targeted epicenter surfaces and radiates. As this epicenter’s focal resonance releases and opens, whether after just one insertion or after several insertions, a biological directive will naturally ensue for the practitioner to proceed to the next position or region.

The tendency to use the ‘sliding’ technique as a repositioning means to the next position is the lesser choice of the two procedures of either lifting or sliding.

Why? Because if not properly educated about the sliding technique and its potency, a practitioner may inflict discomfort and demonstrate an undesirable inexperience. Anxious for attaining therapeutic objectives unnaturally in this instance, the practitioner is acting imperceptively. This impression reflects one “searching in the dark”.

Not to be misunderstood, the sliding technique is in fact quite an efficient advance with positive transformations readily approximated and much appreciated. Yet discomfort, apprehension, and distraction are the usual results when a practitioner uses the ‘sliding’ technique without knowledge of its counterpart and the more professional and sophisticated ‘lifting and repositioning’ method.

A therapist’s motivation must never be desperate in its attempt to discharge stress and tension from a nadi, a chakra, a marma or any vortex dynamic. A congestion or a clearance, a contraction or an expansion within a marma, chakra or a nadi is most effectively remedied when patience is implemented as part of the style.

The ‘sliding’ from one area to another without utilizing a lifting aspect is an intense cross-fiber friction procedure which accesses the fire element. Use this fire element cautiously and most of all be conscientious and purposeful …otherwise the recipient gets burned!

The formula for a treatment which combines ideal duration, intensity and awareness is an alchemy of empowerment for both the giver and the receiver in yoga massage. It is considered masterful when the therapeutic moment’s ingredients of perfect duration, intensity and awareness coalesce.

Repeatedly producing the conditions of perfect duration, intensity and awareness during a treatment is a hallmark indicative of professionalism and guaranteed success for a practitioner in the yogic field!
