Ujjayi Breathing: The Enchantment of Spiritual “White Noise”

As we inspire and expire, currents of energy circulating with pranic force, resonate upon the back of the throat and sacred sinus chambers. As a result of this, the pleasant sound of Ujjayi Yogic Breathing can be heard and this sound replicates perfectly the sound of the Wind and the sound of the Ocean.

During a session of Thai-Yoga Massage/Vedic Body ‘Metta’ Physics, we can have the fortunate opportunity to listen to this ‘deliberately and purposefully occurring’ ocean/wind sound that the breathing creates as it careens through the sacred sinus cavities of the cranium.  A slight contraction at the back of the throat while breathing produces this divine Ocean-like sound.

Ujjayi are the sounds the dinosaurs generated. What the elephants, the whales, the dolphins, and what the rhinos all produce when acclimating to their environment.

As the breath becomes drawn in and propelled out cyclically and repetitively, with whatever timing/tempo is comfortable and conscientious, a spirit of parental nurturing energy is customarily reported to be accessed. It maybe determined that Gaia’s (Earth Mother) Divine Prana washes through the nasal and sinus hollows as thoughts and feelings become interwoven nurturing the soul (You!) with light waves and moisture.

A white-noise generator was routinely activated in the office of a Psychologist client of mine who lived by Princeton University each time before his massage. This always proved a perfect adjunct for enhancing the quality of the treatment.

White noise and the ujjayi breathing sounds are desirable and recommended for a society whosedharma/occupation is symptomatic of severe conditioning from religious, cultural, familial and environmental influences. Our soul, the goal, is more intimate than thought and closer than breath!

The Vedic social body is constituted spiritually by 4 departments which are reflective of the human body. This is called Varnashramdharma and is described in the Bhagavad Gita. The head, the torso, the arms and the legs all represent physical and spiritual community:  the head being the light of sacred intelligence illuminating internally and externally, the torso being the mercantile/ commerce entity which receives and distributes, the arms of course representing protection such as given by police, military and securities, and the legs representing support, balance, foundation and stability of society and soul.

The mind, the bio-computer living in the center of our cranium, can be compared to a radio tower emitting waves and pulses of organic chemical and electrical energy continuously, even during sleep. Intelligent persons, may we assume, are tuned and listening more to a desired self-amplifying channel. Yet the less intelligent, bewildered and obviously sadly-affected persons are hearing the disturbances of scrambled noise mostly. Socially, in order for each of us to be responsible, civil and intelligent, the scrambled-noise generator vitally needs to be replaced with a universal filter which will bathe away individual feelings of negativity and isolation on a personal and social level.

For the social entity to shine full-bodied, all municipalities interested in true education of the mind, body and soul must include the ceremonial ritual of meditation as being inherently national.  Now there is some fun dharma! Constituting as law mandatory meditation time!

Scrambled bio-noise, which would describe the mental condition generally of one NOT trained in meditation, is not a desired or fortifying possession. It is a source of dis-ease!

Fortunately, both intelligent persons and bewildered ones are subject to being spellbound with the STATIC sounds of the mind rendered by ujjayi breath (or another white-noise source).  The white noise of Ujjayi Breathing, being naturally preferred and pleasing, homogenizes the tapestries and textures of resonance coming from the brain’s radio tower. Signals of mental ambiance and harmonic messages are created with conscientious Ujjayi Breathing. Lessons of wisdom, a delightfully permeating radiant life force, emerges as the breathing achieves more volume and velocity.

Ujjayi Breath customarily is meant to be heard by the people surrounding you.  How unexpected and naturally supportive it feels to experience that anyone can indeed spend the full treatment surrendering to the resonatingUjjayi.

Yet vigilance is suggested because typically this is not the status quo. I have only rarely received a massage when this sound was persistent through out the whole massage duration. However, the more Ujjayi conscientious breathing the better! Otherwise, dreadfully we are listening to the only alternative, the mind’s radio tower concurrent with its etheric conditioning, the Not-You!  Not intelligent for anyone!

A yogic bodywork session is most ultimate when one is riding the wind, and not being ridden mercilessly by the wind. The Bhagavad Gita teaches that the mind can be one’s best friend or one’s worst enemy.

Proper ujjayi will precipitate use and positive development of the belly assemblies too. This is most desirable, as can be read about further in the essay, “All Motion Originates from the Belly”.  The belly-navel is referred to in Sanskrit as NabharNabhar is defined as a ‘bright shiny stone that solves and remedies’. This is a good friend to cultivate mastery of. Ujjayi breathing and the belly region are family and love each other.

With the bible and other scriptures so obviously revealing with considerable mention that there has never been just one God, Ujjayi is Divine bread, Manna!  Breaking out of the pack for an exhilarating and liberating run alone thru the forest empowers one to want to have another exhilarating and liberating run thru the forest!

Yet astoundingly, massage therapists and yoga enthusiasts overall subscribe most frequently to the unfortunate option of   ‘Listening to the drunken monkey’. In fact ‘The Drunken Monkey’ is the only alternative really to Ujjayibreathing and ‘The Drunken Monkey’ professes a large number of subscribers. These persons are enrolled like condemned and hypnotized prisoners who are also neglecting the fortunate occasion and advantage of utilizing the more intelligent choice of attuning to Ujjayi cyclical self-breathing.

Embarrassingly enough, I confess that I am part of the common disenfranchised, having only occasionally departed from that bad habit of ‘stinking thinking’ during a session to bathe in the refreshing waterfall of light known as UjjayiBreathing!  I’ll wish this blessed wonderment upon you. You wish the same upon me.

AhhhhhhhhhUuuuuuuMmmmmm. Om.

One might feel that Ujjayi Breathing during a session would be anything but tranquilizing.  With all that deliberate volume one would think the possibilities of serenity and tranquility would diminish.  Quite the contrary, Ujjayi is an exquisite attuning for both the practitioner and the fortunate recipient during a Vedic Thai-Yoga Massage session.  It can be a lullaby song, remembering now the sound of the ocean, the sound of the wind.

A true surrender to the natural grace of Ujjayi is not difficult and it seems to be the path of least resistance yet ironically it is the path MUCH less traveled.  Let’s you and I commit this moment to host Ujjayi Breathing each day for our personal revelations and health!  Each day (or eve), beginning with just 3 cycles, and gradually over the next year achieving 108 cycles of Ujjayi each day!

You like to fly?

For massage therapy it is a fundamental learning that no longer must go unobliged in influential massage schools. Introduce topics of Ujjayi Breathing or Kapalabhati Breathing as a primary lesson regardless of what the educational decree of the day is.  All subjects are made brighter and joyful by the luminosity generated by Pranicbreathing.

This moment…

Inspire what you want…

Expire what you don’t want.

Free Breath Means Free Spirit.

Breathe like you are running to your love.

Breathe like you are being victorious!

Deserving life and love,

Open and Breathe.
