UJJAYI PRANAYAMA TAPASIA
Suggestions to Enhance the Experience of Ujjayi Pranayama Meditation.
- One of the ultimate purposes of Ujjayi Pranayama is Smaranam. Smaranam in Sanskrit means to ‘Remember to Remember’. Smaranam is a very high yogic process. Being conscious of consciousness is also a very high yogic meditation to savor.
- We can begin the Ujjayi Breathing Process by envisioning the Blue Pearl. The Blue Pearl’s home is located between the eyebrows. Customarily, the Blue Pearl’s home is also known as the sixth chakra or The Ajna Chakra. The ‘Blue Pearl’ is a very safe and intelligent region to repose the awareness. Many ‘natural’ benefits accrue from this process of focusing the awareness at the blue pearl region. Benefits include the stimulation of the entire chakra-glandular constellation. Despite perhaps still harboring some doubts, we want to remember with certainty that the sacred pundit-sages of old, those revered souls who represent the lineage of everyone on the yogic path, assured all spiritual aspirants of actually ‘seeing’ inwardly. These great souls are called Maha [Great] Rishi [seer]. Maharishis literally observe the various ‘realities’ of the ‘inner world’. These realities are described as living and ‘tangible’ dimensions of the marmani, the chakras and the nadi channels and include resident Deities, colors, fragrances, sounds, elements and the spirit of purpose.
- As an alternative to the Blue Pearl Meditation, it is also customary to begin The Ujjayi Pranayama Breathing experience by conscientiously foregoing The Blue Pearl Meditation and instead repositioning our awareness to within The Floating Diamond.
The Floating Diamond’s home is the area located precisely behind or posterior to The Blue Pearl, exactly in the center of the cranium beneath the vertex. The Floating Diamond Meditation is a highly recommended process for procuring emotional stability. Furthermore, it is recommended to listen to the ‘Sound’ of The Floating Diamond. This is also described as listening to the sound of The Ten Thousand Bells or The Symphony of Sirens which are always resonating within the cranium. This will add a mysterious and supportive dimension to our Ujjayi meditative discovery. With respect to deepening our meditation even further, we want to immerse our focus in the process of ‘Listening to listening’ and ‘Recording the Recording’. The Deities, the sounds, the colors, and the fragrances, etc. of ‘The Thousand Petaled Lotus Flower’ representing the Crown Chakra occur with Ujjayi Pranayama. This experience is spiritual elixir and salves the soul with hope and assurance.
- We want to direct our internal intention to access the perineal region also. This region is located at the base of our spine and the pelvic ‘floor’. To activate use of this region, also termed the mulabhandha region, it is recommended to offer a mantra of gratitude and respect, termed Pranam Dandavats in Sanskrit, to the Deity residing at the Mulabhandha Marma.
- During the Ujjayi Pranayama Breathing experience, we want to always adorn our face with a gentle smile and to sustain this barely noticeable and ultra subtle, gentle smile for the entire Ujjayi Pranayama session.
- We can further support the Ujjayi Pranayama Breathing experience by conscientiously committing to a predetermined set of full respirations. This predetermined count of respirations can perhaps be as few as only seven complete repetitions or as many as 108 and more. This is an excellent and intelligent regulation to follow
- With Ujjayi Pranayama, we want to always remember also that spirit and breath are identical and mutually collaborative. Whatever spirit we so desire to attain, whether it be the spirit of meditation, the spirit of study, the spirit of athletics, the spirit of parenting, the spirit of dance or sex, the golden chariot for delivering our soul into this desired spirit is THE BREATH and its revered mechanics!
- Enjoy resonating the breath to sound identical to the wind and identical to the sound of the ocean.
- Continue the Ujjayi Pranayama session with confidence by assuming that it is correct, customary and even encouraged for the sound of the resonating breath to be heard by the person[s] positioned close to you. In other words…REALLY VOCALIZE while attuning to the environment also! Remember your ‘Power Animal’s breathing sound.’
- We want our body posture and mechanics to be always perfect. ULTIMATELY THE ENTIRE BODY WILL VIBRATE DELICIOUSLY DURING UJJAYI PRANAYAMA.
- Retracting the chin, termed JaladharaBhanda in yoga, is an essential posture to sustain.
- Breath Retention is also an alternative embellishment and customary to the practice of Ujjayi Pranayama.
- Conscientiously commit to increasing the number of respiratory cycles with each progressive session.
- Proceed with confidence and certainty knowing that the benefits and enlightenment of Ujjayi Breathing are meant also to inspire all beings.
- During the Ujjayi Pranayama experience, the cultivation of questions is more life-sustaining than the cultivation of answers. Quality inquiries, self-generated within the psyche, are more enduring and liberating than incessant and binding answers.
- We want to always posture our body with CHEST UP. Projecting our heart region towards the sun is the yogic way.
- During our Ujjayi Pranayama Meditation, we want to occasionally set unreasonable yet inspiring goals for our self. One example of such a goal may be committing to a FULL DAY’S DIET once a year of just Ujjayi Breathing.
There are many other delightful considerations to enhance and inspire the Ujjayi Pranayama Meditation experience. One of my favorite enhancements during the Ujjayi Pranayama Meditation is to conscientiously imagine children resting securely upon my body.
